How the blanket calculator works
- Scale gauge across the width. Foundation stitches = gauge stitches x (width / 10). A 16-stitch gauge for a 127 x 152 cm throw gives 16 x 12.7 = 203.2, rounded to 203 stitches.
- Scale gauge up the length. Total rows = gauge rows x (height / 10): 24 x 15.2 = 364.8, rounded to 365 rows.
- Check the finished size. Rounding shifts the real dimensions slightly — 203 stitches at that gauge lands at 126.9 cm wide, 365 rows at 152.1 cm long, both shown in the result detail.

How many stitches do I need to start a crochet blanket?
Multiply your stitches-per-10-cm gauge by the blanket width in tens of centimeters. A 16-stitch gauge worked across a 127 cm throw needs 16 x 12.7 = 203.2, so chain 203 stitches plus the turning chain.
Should I add a border allowance?
The calculator gives the bare blanket size. Borders add 2 to 10 cm all around depending on thickness — either crochet them from the math of extra rounds, or subtract the planned border from the target size before calculating.
What are the standard blanket sizes?

Does stitch pattern change the count?
Yes — chain spaces, shells, and post stitches all change gauge. Always measure gauge in the actual pattern stitch, not plain double crochet, before trusting the foundation count.
